Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)

CFD provides powerful visual insight into a water flow process ahead of construction or manufacturing to ensure the best performance and value for money. In the water industry, projects are growing more complex and rarely two schemes are the same. This requires an advanced level of fluid dynamics understanding to minimise a project’s risk. Therefore, CFD doesn’t cost you money, it saves you money!

Hydraulic Structure Design

The VorTech team specialise in water and wastewater transport and treatment hydraulic structures. We have worked on hydraulic infrastructure projects in Ireland, UK, Switzerland and Dubai ranging from siphons to deep sewer conveyance systems and have numerous papers published for a range of hydraulic structures requiring single and multiphase free-surface flows. VorTech work with the client to design a solution that meets their needs and can offer a full validation package for design using combined physical and CFD modelling.

Process Modelling

Process models are effective tools which can be used to model and understand relevant aspects of a treatment process. Numerical modelling can be used for advanced control, optimization, sensitivity analysis, scenario modelling, statistical analysis, and management of treatment plants. VorTech also provide clients with innovative CFD standard activated sludge models (ASMs) coupling to provide an advanced understanding of treatment performance.

Aeration Energy Audits

An aeration energy audit (AEA) process developed by VorTech entails a site visit to inspect the power consumption of equipment and respective quantities of pollutants removed in order for the plant owner to specifically baseline energy usage. VorTech are aware of typical and efficient specific energy usage figures and therefore can help identify sweet spots for clients to undertake optimisation. An AEA requires 2 days of activity and can be carried out remotely under the direction of VorTech.
